Job summary

Arizona Department of Water Resources in Phoenix seeks a Hydrogeologist Associate to join the Surface Water Section of the Statewide Planning & Permitting Division. The role emphasizes evaluating surface water rights, including instream flow and transfers, and ensuring policy adherence and technical rigor.

You will lead field inspections, coordinate multi-disciplinary projects, and prepare reports and hydrologic analyses.

Qualifications

• Ten years of professional level water resource management experience; OR
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field and eight years of professional level water resources management experience; OR
• Master’s degree or higher in a related field and six years of professional level water resource management experience; OR
• Doctorate in a related field and four years of professional level water resource management experience.

Responsibilities

• Research, compile, analyze, interpret and integrate water resource data from multiple sources.
• Lead field inspections and investigations of water rights/claims to ensure proper procedures and timelines.
• Provide groundwater/surface water hydrology support and prepare hydrologic reports for surface water applications.
• Develop and maintain Department databases and records; assist staff with procedures and timelines.
• Train and supervise lower-level professional staff on procedures and techniques.
• Serve as agency technical witness in hearings when needed.
