Job summary

Duke University School of Medicine is seeking an HR Specialist to join our team. You will serve as a key HR resource across the School of Medicine, supporting payroll and leave processes and partnering with department HR, managers, employees, and students to navigate HR workflows.

This hybrid role may require on-site work in Durham, NC as needed to ensure accurate and timely HR actions and high-quality service. Confidentiality and collaboration are essential to success.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of HR and payroll concepts.
• Experience with HR systems and payroll processing.
• Familiarity with healthcare/academic environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll transactions, corrections, and adjustments for employees and students.
• Process HR transactions from request through completion (hires, transfers, terminations, pay changes).
• Provide specialized leave support (FMLA, parental, military, personal leave).
• Guide employees and managers through payroll/leave requirements and coordinate actions.
• Support onboarding and separation HR activities and documentation.
• Deliver excellent service while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
