Job summary

The University of Alabama is seeking an experienced Network Engineer II for the High Performance Computing Center (HPCC). The role supports HPCC and enterprise networks, maintaining equipment and OS, and acting as an escalation resource for routing and performance issues.

Requirements include a Master’s degree with networking experience or a Bachelor’s with two years of networking experience, or related combinations; a valid U.S. driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent with network engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree with two years of network engineering experience.
• Associate's degree with four years IT experience including two years of network engineering.
• High school diploma with six years IT experience including two years of network engineering.

Responsibilities

• Perform general network administration tasks for UA's HPCC and university networks.
• Maintain and support HPCC network equipment and operating systems (switches, APs, controllers, UPS, security devices).
• Escalate and resolve routing, performance, and network problems.
• Assist in strategy, planning, and design of UA's HPCC network.
• Manage Layer 2 switch configurations and deployment; plan fiber paths; IPAM configurations; manage network closet UPS; track inventory.
