Job summary

The University of Alabama is seeking a High Performance Computing Network Engineer II to administer the HPC Center network and enterprise wired/wireless networks. Responsibilities include managing Layer 2 switches, planning fiber paths, IPAM, and escalation of routing/performance issues.

The role requires a Master’s degree with experience or a Bachelor’s with two years of experience; CCNA is preferred. Eligible for hybrid work, aligning with University policy.

Qualifications

• Master's degree plus some network engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree with two years of relevant experience.
• Associate and high school pathways accepted.

Responsibilities

• Manage Layer 2 switch configuration and deployment.
• Plan and manage the network fiber path.
• Perform IPAM configurations.
• Resolve tickets and low- to moderate-complexity network problems.
• Oversee network closet UPS units, inventory, and surplus.
• Draw on TCP/IP routing knowledge (RIP, OSPF, EGP, BGP, PIM) and LAN/WAN protocols.
• Support enterprise wired and wireless networks as needed.
