Job summary

The Seattle YMCA is hiring for a Health Coach role that blends remote and on-site coaching in its Healthy Living Programs. You will guide participants through behavior change, deliver standard curricula, and advocate for healthy living in a supportive environment.

You will use motivational interviewing, track progress, and collaborate with staff to recruit members, run classes, and support wellness initiatives. Training and HIPAA compliance are essential to ensure quality care.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in a health behavior change field.
• Experience using motivational interviewing techniques.
• Ability to maintain strict program fidelity.
• Two years or more of college education in a health‑related field.
• Current state approved first aid certification.
• Current state approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.
• Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
• Working knowledge of chronic disease prevention health and fitness philosophies.
• Must attend and receive passing grades in YMCA training prior to leading classes.
• Proof of Health Coaching certification if doing individual coaching.

Responsibilities

• Administers assigned Healthy Living Program area(s) following Association standards.
• Facilitates evidence‑based health intervention group programs focused on behavior change, healthy habits, and peer support and/or provides one‑on‑one and small group health coaching sessions.
• Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques to guide participants in identifying barriers, building self‑efficacy, and sustaining behavior change.
• Collaborates with participants to develop individualized action plans, track progress, and celebrate milestones.
• Works with directors to recruit participants and deliver classes.
• Assists with workshops, special events and seasonal wellness programs for members.
• Assists with marketing and retention activities to create robust classes with enrollment numbers, meeting program standards.
• Achieves program specific target outcomes.
• May conduct outreach with local organizations and providers for program recruitment.
• Maintains records related to program following HIPAA Privacy Laws.
• Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Other duties as assigned.
