Job summary

The Seattle YMCA is seeking an on-site fitness instructor to provide specialized individual or small group training and to lead wellness classes. You will act as a liaison and advocate for the YMCA, understanding the Health Seeker target market and offering motivational coaching to members in ongoing YMCA programs.

You will plan and instruct classes, develop positive relationships with participants, promote healthy lifestyle factors, and ensure safe, effective sessions.

Qualifications

• Two or more years experience teaching or practicing in specialized area.
• Ability to lead a class or provide individual service.
• Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
• Ability to motivate and educate members.
• Ability to set up, move and store equipment.
• Certification such as YMCA Fitness Specialist Trainer, ACSM, ACE, NSCA.

Responsibilities

• Plans and instructs classes or programs in a specialty area.
• Develops positive relationships with participants and facilitates relationship building.
• Increases participant awareness of healthy lifestyle factors.
• Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Attends staff meetings and approved trainings.
• Sets up and takes down class equipment and reports problems.
• Ensures safe and effective classes and responds to incidents.
• Leads Total Health classes or programs in a specialized area.
• Maintains records of participant progress and provides motivation.
