Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) announces an immediate opening for a full-time Guardianship staff attorney-floater in the Statewide Advocacy Support located in Baltimore, Maryland. The staff attorney will handle all functions related to legal advocacy with a focus on adult guardianship cases, representing indigent adults in circuit courts, and reviewing hearings and appeals.

Requirements include a Juris Doctorate, admission to practice in Maryland or eligibility, strong civil law knowledge, and

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Admitted to practice in Maryland or eligible for admission.
• Knowledge of civil law, judicial procedures, and rules of evidence.
• Proficiency with Office 365 applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients as assigned by the court in guardianship matters.
• Conduct client interviews and fact-finding.
• Perform legal research and draft pleadings and memoranda.
• Develop case theory and strategy for representation.
• Prepare cases for negotiations, hearings, trials, and appeals.
• Engage with community groups and participate in trainings and outreach.
