Job summary

Herbert Simon Family Foundation is seeking a Program Director to lead grantmaking across priority areas and build trusted community relationships. You will assess opportunities, develop recommendations, and help advance the Foundation’s strategy with ongoing learning and accountability.

The role emphasizes collaboration, ethics, and the ability to move complex work forward in a growing, mission-driven environment. January 2027 start with hybrid schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of progressively responsible nonprofit, public, philanthropic, or related sector experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of HSFF impact areas: Arts + Culture, Basic Needs, Environment + Climate, Equity + Justice, and Jewish Causes.
• Proficiency with Office 365, Salesforce or similar CRM, project management tools (Asana) and ability to learn SmartSimple quickly.
• Strong analytical ability to assess information and form clear recommendations for leadership.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for senior decision-makers.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently with initiative and follow-through.

Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned grantmaking portfolio including inquiries, timelines, due diligence, reviews and reporting.
• Review applications and budgets, translating findings into concise recommendations for the Executive Director and Board.
• Develop authentic relationships with grantees, nonprofit leaders, and community partners.
• Develop deep knowledge of issues within an assigned impact area and identify opportunities for investment.
• Coordinate with stakeholders and participate in site visits, events, and external activities.
• Prepare concise materials for Board meetings and support grantmaking decisions.
• Help develop new strategic initiatives and special projects.
