Books-A-Million, headquartered in Birmingham, AL, is seeking an experienced Associate Buyer to own Gift category buying and vendor relationships. This hybrid role supports the Merchandising team from our Birmingham corporate office, with a blend of in-office and remote work and strong collaboration with planning, marketing, and distribution teams.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years in buying or merchandising, a strong analytics mindset, and the ability to drive sales, margin, and inventory goals

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience.
• 2–5 years of related buying experience with growth in buying volume and financial responsibility.
• Strong financial, strategic planning, merchandising, negotiation, and relationship skills.
• High degree of retail math proficiency and ability to apply financial concepts to daily operations.
• Forward thinking with data analysis, goal setting, and timely decision making.
• Self-driven with productivity, effectiveness, and results orientation.

Aufgaben

• Own buying for assigned Gift categories from assortment planning to SKU lifecycle, open-to-buy, and markdown management.
• Collaborate with Buyers, Senior Buyers, vendors, distribution centers, stores, and marketing teams to drive sales, margin, and inventory results.
• Develop merchandise assortments and strategies that support company and departmental goals while meeting customer needs.
• Manage all aspects of the merchandise offering, including selection, mix, brand, pricing, promotion, negotiation, and disposition.
• Create, manage, and track purchase orders and item creation with data accuracy.
• Lead vendor relationships, negotiations, and performance to maximize profitability and ensure on-time delivery.
• Provide guidance to Merchandising Planning on merchandise flow and key items.
• Attend trade shows and vendor meetings to observe trends and build business relationships.
