Job summary

Barnes & Noble Education (BNED) seeks a Manager, Gross Margin Analytics to lead margin analysis, budgeting, and forecasting for BNED and its brands. You will own monthly margin reporting, validate data during close, and drive insights that influence pricing and product decisions.

The role requires strong FP&A skills, executive-ready communication, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The position is hybrid in Florham Park, NJ, with in-office attendance three days per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field; MBA preferred.
• 7–10 years in finance/FP&A or related experience; retail experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of gross margin, COGS, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to present to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly gross margin reporting and analysis across BNED and brands; provide commentary on drivers, risks and opportunities.
• Develop detailed COGS budget at store, division and product category levels with monthly inputs.
• Produce quarterly gross margin projections and communicate changes, risks, and opportunities.
• Support monthly close; validate gross margin, inventory, COGS, and resolve variances.
• Serve as FP&A subject-matter expert for gross margin methodologies and performance.
• Develop Stock Ledger expertise to support margin analysis and issue investigation.
• Prepare margin analysis for the Board, senior leadership, and field/store management.
• Provide detailed COGS, pricing, and margin analytics for key businesses (e.g., Logo Products, First Day Complete).
• Drive process improvements and AI-enabled automation to improve accuracy and efficiency.
