Job summary

Destiny Packaging, a Bunzl company, seeks a Flexible Packaging Engineer to bridge films and Sales, with on-site visits and engineering solutions. Based in Salinas, CA in a hybrid role, you’ll work with films, laminate structures, and equipment suppliers to drive technical and commercial success.

The ideal candidate has a background in packaging/engineering, film chemistry knowledge, and strong presentation and Excel skills. Travel is required as needed within a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Engineering or related field is preferred.
• Experience with MAP, barrier films, laminated structures, COEX films, SUPs, flexo print, shrink, stretch and poly bag structures is preferred.
• Two years of field experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of vertical form and fill equipment is preferred.
• Understanding of film chemistry (polyurethane, polyvinyl, polyolefin films) and shrink films is preferred.
• Presentation skills with PowerPoint or Keynote are preferred.
• Excel skills; pivot tables are a plus.
• Ability to build ROI models based on film property changes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop automated sample request processes with suppliers to streamline Sales and Buyers.
• Identify competitive films and suggest Bunzl offerings.
• Support in developing competitor cross-reference charts for roll stock, shrink bags, and shrink films.
• Assist with plant surveys and supplier relationships.
• Deliver periodic progress presentations to executive leadership.
• Assist Sales in test runs of films and bags at customer facilities.
• Build relationships with primary and strategic equipment suppliers.
• Contribute to marketing and specification collateral websites (PDFs, sell sheets, MSDS, properties).
