Job summary

WSP is seeking an Entry Level Structural Engineer for our Lake Oswego, Oregon office to join the Pacific Civil/Structural Substation team and help deliver projects that meet client objectives and solve challenges.

The role involves local technical assistance for electrical substation structural design, including foundations, structures, rigid bus and control buildings, along with preparing documentation and coordinating with disciplines.

Qualifications

• BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering) from an ABET accredited college.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Basic understanding of structural analysis including steel and concrete design, soil mechanics, and foundation design.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work independently under supervision, and as part of a team.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software and tools.
• Knowledge of building codes and standards (ASCE, ACI, AISC).
• Familiarity with design software (RISA 3D, RISA Foundation, L-Pile, MathCAD).
• Strong English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Involved in all aspects of structural design for substations, including permitting, structure and foundation design, and equipment layout.
• Provide entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements.
• Prepare calculation packages to satisfy client, code, and company requirements.
• Coordinate with other disciplines contributing to electrical substation design.
• Evaluate constructability of electrical substations.
• Ensure plans adhere to client and WSP standards.
• Generate documentation using drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and site logs.
• Follow safety guidelines and site procedures, including data collection and surveys.
• Complete training on assigned tasks and adhere to the Code of Conduct.
