Grainger in Santa Ana, CA is seeking an experienced software engineer to design and implement Linux-based edge software for real-time sensing and device control. You will bring up hardware, write drivers, and ensure reliable edge-to-cloud integration.

The role emphasizes CI/CD, containerization for edge deployments, and secure-by-default practices. 5+ years of C/C++/Python in Linux environments are expected; on-site work in Orange County is required.

Qualifications

• Experience building Linux-based software for real-time sensing and device control.
• Strong C/C++ and Python development skills with Linux exposure.
• Familiarity with embedded hardware bring-up and device drivers.

Responsibilities

• Design & implement Linux software (C/C++, Python) for real-time sensing and device control.
• Integrate hardware and firmware; bring-up boards and write drivers.
• Build reliable connectivity over TCP/UDP, HTTP(S), MQTT, gRPC/Protobuf.
• Harden for production; tune performance and memory usage for large fleets.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines; containerize edge services; support OTA releases.
• Apply secure-by-default practices (TLS, certs, secure boot, updates).
• Write tests; add logging/metrics; support remote diagnostics.
• Collaborate across electrical, mechanical, and cloud/backend teams.
• Work on site in Orange County, CA.
