Job summary

Bay Systems Consulting Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical CAD Designer to support the Advanced Light Source Upgrade (ALS-U) project at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, CA.

The role focuses on translating engineering concepts into manufacturable electrical designs and documentation. The ideal candidate has 5+ years CAD experience, strong skills in AutoCAD Electrical, Inventor or KiCad, and a track record of producing BOMs, wiring schedules, and revision-controlled

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or a related technical discipline
• 5+ years of professional experience producing electrical CAD designs
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Inventor, KiCad, or equivalent CAD software
• Experience developing manufacturing-ready electrical documentation including BOMs and wire/cable schedules
• Experience maintaining revision-controlled documentation within a PLM or PDM system
• Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, components, schematic development, and wiring practices
• Familiarity with applicable electrical design standards and industry codes
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and document-control practices

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain electrical CAD models, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using project-approved CAD software
• Develop detailed, manufacturing-ready electrical documentation to support fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation
• Prepare and maintain BOMs, wire lists, cable schedules
• Review designs and incorporate engineering feedback, design-review comments, and approved changes
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, project managers, manufacturing personnel, and other technical staff
• Support the integration of electrical and mechanical designs and product assemblies
• Participate in design coordination and technical design reviews as needed
• Maintain organized CAD files, design libraries, and revision-controlled engineering documentation
• Work within Windchill, PLM/PDM systems, and other designated engineering/document-control systems
• Ensure designs and documentation comply with applicable industry standards, codes, project requirements, and quality procedures
• Develop engineering drawing revisions and complete design packages supporting manufacturing, installation, and other project activities
