Job summary

NRDC seeks a Land Conservation Director/Senior Attorney to unite a team of lawyers, scientists, and policy advocates in protecting public lands and conserving critical ecological values. You will lead strategic advocacy, fundraising, and communications while shaping state and federal campaigns.

You will collaborate across NRDC offices and engage with external coalitions, guiding priority initiatives and complex legal matters to advance conservation goals.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in legal and/or policy advocacy, including management experience.
• Experience leading state or federal campaigns, litigating and advocating for public lands preferred.
• Ability to build and navigate diverse teams and coalitions, fostering equitable outcomes.
• Strong leadership, communication, and mentorship skills.
• Commitment to NRDC’s mission, values, and DEI principles.

Responsibilities

• Lead land conservation team of lawyers, scientists, and policy advocates to defend public lands and meet energy needs.
• Develop and drive strategic goals aligned with fundraising and institutional priorities.
• Represent NRDC in public forums, administrative proceedings, and media.
• Build partnerships with coalitions and decision-makers to guide strategy and policy outcomes.
• Oversee staff performance, provide mentoring, and ensure professional development.
• Provide legal guidance to priority strategies and oversee litigation with NRDC’s Litigation Team.
