Job summary

The Hartford is offering an 11-week Data Science Summer Internship designed to prepare you for a challenging data science career. You will develop machine learning and AI solutions across strategic initiatives and present to senior leaders in the Data Science & Analytics community.

The program provides on-the-job training in insurance, cloud environments, and modeling techniques, with a hybrid work model. Office locations include CT Hartford, NC Charlotte, or IL Chicago, with remote flexibility

Qualifications

• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
• Pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience in statistical modeling, inference, and building machine learning algorithms using Python.
• Strong communication skills for explaining methodologies and results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Able to maintain organized notes, version history, and documentation for the team.
• Exposure to cloud-native environments (AWS Sagemaker or GCP) is a plus.
• Understanding of prompt engineering, RAG, agent workflow, and LLM evaluation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating statistical models, machine learning models, and AI workflows to solve business problems.
• Review work with partners and teams to calibrate deliverables against expectations.
• Identify and assess new data sources and analytical techniques for competitive advantage.
• Contribute to the development and deployment of long-term analytical tools.
• Present data-driven insights and model results to stakeholders.
• Document work clearly for knowledge sharing within the team.
