Job summary

The Hartford is offering an 11-week Data Science Summer Internship designed to prepare you for a challenging data science career. You will develop machine learning and AI solutions across strategic initiatives and present to senior leaders in the Data Science & Analytics community.

The program provides on-the-job training in insurance, cloud environments, and modeling techniques, with a hybrid work model. Office locations include CT Hartford, NC Charlotte, or IL Chicago, with remote flexibility

Qualifications

• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
• Pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience in statistical modeling, inference, and building machine learning algorithms using Python.
• Strong communication skills for explaining methodologies and results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Able to maintain organized notes, version history, and documentation for the team.
• Exposure to cloud-native environments (AWS Sagemaker or GCP) is a plus.
• Understanding of prompt engineering, RAG, agent workflow, and LLM evaluation is a plus.

Responsibilities

Additionally, you will have opportunities to present to senior Data Science leaders, network across all levels of our Data Science & Analytics community, attend social events, and discussions with leaders via one-on-ones and panels. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees.
