Job summary

The Hartford in Chicago, IL invites you to join its Data Science Summer Internship for 11 weeks starting May 2027, designed to launch a challenging career in data science.

As a Data Scientist Intern you will develop ML/AI solutions, present to senior leaders, and gain on‑the‑job training in insurance, cloud environments, and modeling techniques. Hybrid work with Tue–Thu in office and Mon/Fri remote.

Qualifications

• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
• Pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Actuarial Science, CS or similar.
• Experience in statistical modeling, inference and ML algorithms using Python.
• Strong communication skills to explain methodologies and results to non-technical audiences.
• Nice to have cloud experience (AWS/SageMaker or GCP) and SQL/Unix basics.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating statistical and ML models and AI workflows to solve business problems.
• Review work with partners to calibrate deliverables against expectations.
• Identify data sources and techniques to maintain competitive advantage.
• Contribute to long-term tool development and deployment.
• Prepare presentations translating data insights and model results for stakeholders.
• Document work clearly for knowledge sharing within the team.
