Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Cost Engineer to develop and enhance cost modeling tools for ground-up should-cost estimates of components and subsystems. The role involves evaluating supplier quotes, driving data-driven negotiations, and pursuing VAVE and cost-optimization opportunities.

You will strengthen cross-functional collaboration with Purchasing and Engineering, support standardization of estimating processes, and train teammates in activity-based costing practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or related field.
• Three years of experience in cost engineering, launch engineering, product engineering, or related role.
• Experience with activity-based costing, ED&D, and tooling from design to tear down.

Responsibilities

• Develop, grow, and improve cost knowledge and modeling tools for accurate should-cost estimates.
• Evaluate supplier quotes vs. estimated costs and support data-driven negotiations.
• Identify and pursue cost-saving opportunities, including VAVE and design-to-cost initiatives.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Purchasing and Engineering to improve cost results.
• Train others on activity-based costing and GM tools.
