Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Cost Engineer to develop, grow, and continuously improve cost knowledge and modeling tools to enable confident should-cost estimates for materials, tooling, and ED&D across vehicle components. You will evaluate supplier quotes, drive cost insights, and support cost-saving initiatives in collaboration with Purchasing and Engineering teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or related field.
3+ years of experience as Cost Engineer, Launch Engineer, Product Engineer, or related role.
Experience with Activity Based Costing, ED&D, and tooling from design math and teardown.
Experience with automotive manufacturing processes and supplier negotiations.

Responsibilities

Develop cost knowledge and modeling tools to support ground-up should-cost estimating for materials, tooling, and ED&D.
Evaluate supplier quotes vs. estimates to inform Purchasing and optimize costs.
Identify cost-saving opportunities (Costing/VAVE) and drive data-driven negotiations with suppliers.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Purchasing and Engineering; participate in special projects to improve cost results and process efficiency.
