Job summary

Scale Microgrids seeks a Controls Engineer to join our product engineering team to design, build, and commission microgrids. You will report to the Chief Technology Officer and work a hybrid schedule from our offices in Oakland, Santa Monica, Ridgewood, or NYC.

Key responsibilities include PLC-based control systems, hardware and instrumentation, design documentation, troubleshooting, site-level microgrid networks, safety, and cybersecurity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 4+ years of related experience or equivalent.
• 5+ years experience in control loop design and switching power supply is a plus.
• Proficient with PLC programming and ladder logic.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and program PLC-based electrical control systems
• Specify, purchase, and troubleshoot control system hardware and instrumentation
• Read, understand, and develop control system design documents
• Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues to minimize downtime
• Design and manage site-level microgrid networks and security
• Perform risk assessments and ensure safe operation of control systems
• Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and vendors
• Support cybersecurity efforts for secure controls
• Learn and optimize microgrid controls for each project
