Job summary

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Compliance Attorney to join our Legal department. This role translates complex regulatory requirements into practical business solutions and strengthens governance across the organization.

The Compliance Attorney will manage enterprise compliance efforts, advise leadership, and work in a hybrid schedule after demonstrating proficiency. The position requires strong knowledge of federal and state law and experience in regulatory

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and manage the organization's compliance program.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on compliance for senior management and business units.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations, Board policies, and standards of conduct.
  • Provide updates to senior management on new or proposed legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Draft, revise and implement policies, practices and processes to enhance compliance.
  • Monitor, measure and report on the organization's adherence to requirements.
  • Work with business units to identify and address compliance vulnerabilities and operational risks.
  • Draft and distribute compliance communications.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to develop compliance guidance for staff.
  • Serve as a resource on risk management matters for MainePERS staff.
  • Coordinate matters related to system policies, practices and procedures for appeals.

Education

Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from an accredited law school
