Job summary

Maine Public Employees Retirement System seeks a Compliance Attorney to join our Legal department. This role translates complex regulations into practical business solutions and strengthens governance across the organization.

The position supports leadership on evolving requirements and monitors compliance while enabling a hybrid work schedule after ramp-up. The attorney will draft policies, coordinate with Human Resources for staff guidance, and serve as a trusted resource on risk management

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
• Three to five years’ experience in regulatory, tax or legal compliance.
• Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to public pension plans.

Responsibilities

• Developing, implementing and managing the organization’s compliance program.
• Advising leadership on evolving legal and regulatory requirements.
• Maintaining knowledge of applicable federal and state requirements, board policies and standards of conduct.
• Drafting and revising policies, practices and processes to enhance compliance.
• Monitoring, measuring, and reporting on adherence to requirements.
• Collaborating with HR to provide compliance guidance to staff.
