Job summary

University of Illinois Chicago is seeking a Research Cloud Engineer to design, implement, and support cloud and hybrid infrastructure for the UIC research community. You will work with ACER engineers and researchers to deliver secure, scalable cloud solutions using Terraform and CloudFormation, across AWS and Azure.

The role involves optimizing costs, enabling cloud adoption for research use cases, and delivering training on cloud topics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or closely related field.
• Minimum of 1 year of professional IT experience within Cyberinfrastructure research computing.
• Experience building and managing Azure and/or AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with system administration/Engineering/DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Designs, creates, and maintains secure, repeatable cloud solutions via Terraform and CloudFormation templates.
• Participate in cloud service design, development, delivery, and continuous improvement program.
• Support hybrid or cloud only, containerized, and/or serverless solutions through CI/CD processes.
• Execute provisioning of secure cloud solutions for research use cases.
• Optimize cloud computing costs and set up effective alerts.
• Collaborate with researchers and ACER engineers to deliver training on cloud topics.
