Job summary

Mesirow invites a Cloud and Automation Engineer to join the Cloud and Infrastructure team in Chicago. You will design, build, and operate infrastructure across Azure and on-premises environments, driving automation and reducing manual toil.

You will collaborate with engineering, security, and business partners to implement immutable, codified platforms while advancing our hybrid cloud strategy and incident response capabilities.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years of experience integrating and automating infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code in public cloud (Azure preferred) and on-premises environments.
• Experience across multiple layers of the stack, not just a single platform or tool.
• Experience in cross-functional/squad-based delivery models with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate infrastructure across Azure and on-premises hyperconverged environments, applying consistent engineering principles regardless of platform.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, and operational tasks using infrastructure-as-code practices, reducing manual work.
• Partner with cross-functional squads to translate business and application requirements into resilient, secure infrastructure designs.
• Co-design systems with developers, favoring immutable infrastructure patterns so environments are rebuilt from code.
• Contribute to hybrid cloud strategy, deciding what belongs in private data centers versus Azure and building portable, managed workloads.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues spanning cloud, virtualization, storage, networking, and identity layers.
• Document standards, patterns, and runbooks to reduce tribal knowledge.
• Embed SRE principles and durable fixes into day-to-day work.
