Job summary

Arnold & Porter is seeking a Client Guidelines Attorney to implement policies governing client retention, negotiate OCGs, and ensure global compliance. The role collaborates with Relationship Partners and internal stakeholders to document and operationalize client requirements, including RFPs and engagement documents.

The successful candidate will interpret professional-responsibility rules and contribute to policy improvements across the firm’s offices, with a hybrid schedule in multiple U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and J.D. required.
• Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction preferred; admission shortly after hire required for employment.
• Minimum one year at a large law firm in conflicts, contracts, new business intake, ethics, or related area.
• Experience practicing law is preferred.
• Strong research, organization, and reporting on complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Implement policies governing the firm’s client-retention relationships under supervision.
• Draft, negotiate, interpret, and implement OCGs, retention docs, RFPs, and engagement letters.
• Coordinate with Relationship Partners and stakeholders to align retention expectations.
• Analyze client guidelines and retention docs; resolve outstanding matters.
• Monitor global compliance with OCG terms including conflicts checks and databases.
• Collaborate with subject-matter experts to refine client guidelines and processes.
• Work with practice groups on compliance requirements and improvements.
• Develop familiarity with supporting technologies and process improvements.
