Job summary

Arnold & Porter is seeking a Client Guidelines Attorney to implement policies for client retention and to align client requirements with ethical obligations and firm risk. The role involves drafting and negotiating outside counsel guidelines, RFPs, and engagement documents across domestic and global offices.

The successful candidate will gain subject-matter expertise in professional-responsibility rules, work with stakeholders, and help refine firm policies while supporting compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and J.D. required.
• Active bar admission in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction preferred.
• Experience in large law firms and with conflicts of interest, contracts, or ethics a plus.

Responsibilities

• Implement policies governing client-retention relationships under supervision.
• Draft, negotiate, and interpret time-sensitive OCGs and engagement documents.
• Communicate with stakeholders to ensure retention outcomes are understood and documented.
• Analyze client OCGs, retention docs, and RFPs; resolve outstanding matters with partners.
