Job summary

Arnold & Porter, an international law firm, seeks a Client Guidelines Attorney to help implement client retention policies across its U.S. offices.

The role collaborates with the Office of General Counsel, Relationship Partners, and the Director of Client Service & Compliance to document and enforce client guidelines, engagement documents, and outside counsel guidelines. This position requires a JD, bar admission, and experience in conflicts of interest or related areas, with strong written

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and J.D. are required.
• Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction preferred.
• At least one year of relevant experience at a large law firm in conflicts, contracts, or ethics.
• Experience with legal research and organizing, tracking, and reporting on complex projects.
• Strong integrity, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information.
• Experience with conflicts databases and corporate-entity research tools preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Implement policies governing the firm’s client-retention relationships under supervision.
• Draft, negotiate, interpret, and implement OCGs and retention documents.
• Communicate with internal stakeholders and clients to align retention expectations.
• Analyze client OCGs and retention documents; follow up to resolve issues.
• Monitor compliance with negotiated terms and conflicts checks.
• Incorporate input from subject-matter experts on client guidelines and retention docs.
• Partner with practice groups on compliance requirements.
• Develop and adapt technologies to support client-guidelines processes.
• Contribute to policies and initiatives on client retention and risk management.
