Job summary

VHB's Hauppauge, NY office seeks a Civil Project Engineer to join the Land Engineering team. This role focuses on diverse, multi-disciplinary projects for institutional, industrial, coastal, real estate, and energy clients, supporting growth of the civil engineering practice.

The position offers a hybrid work arrangement and opportunities to mentor junior staff, coordinate with surveyors and engineers, and contribute to permitting and construction observation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
• 3+ years of professional civil engineering and site/land development design experience
• EIT or PE preferred
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Experience preparing site/civil engineering plans and land development documentation
• Understanding of the Long Island marketplace and local permitting requirements is a plus

Responsibilities

• Develop site/civil engineering plans, designs, and specifications for diverse projects across Industrial, Institutional, Real Estate, Coastal, and Energy markets
• Support project managers and senior engineers on small to large-scale projects
• Prepare land development design and permitting documents (site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion control, stormwater plans)
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses related to site development and infrastructure design
• Prepare and review drawings, specs, reports, and other project documents
• Coordinate with surveyors, landscape architects, traffic engineers, environmental professionals, and other disciplines
• Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, boards, commissions, and utility providers
• Assist with permitting activities, project scope, budget, and schedule management
• Assist with construction administration, RFIs, submittals, and field support
• Participate in site visits and construction observations
• Develop relationships with clients, project teams, and regulatory agencies
• Mentor junior staff and assist with proposals and business development
