Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
• 3+ years of professional civil engineering and site/land development design experience
• EIT or PE preferred
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Experience preparing site/civil engineering plans and land development documentation
• Understanding of the Long Island marketplace and local permitting requirements is a plus

Responsibilities

• Develop site/civil engineering plans, designs, and specifications for diverse projects across Industrial, Institutional, Real Estate, Coastal, and Energy markets
• Support project managers and senior engineers on small to large-scale projects
• Prepare land development design and permitting documents (site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion control, stormwater plans)
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses related to site development and infrastructure design
• Prepare and review drawings, specs, reports, and other project documents
• Coordinate with surveyors, landscape architects, traffic engineers, environmental professionals, and other disciplines
• Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, boards, commissions, and utility providers
• Assist with permitting activities, project scope, budget, and schedule management
• Assist with construction administration, RFIs, submittals, and field support
• Participate in site visits and construction observations
• Develop relationships with clients, project teams, and regulatory agencies
• Mentor junior staff and assist with proposals and business development

ABOUT THE POSITION

Civil Project Engineer - Land Engineering | Hybrid | Hauppauge, NY

VHB's growing Hauppauge, NY office is seeking a Civil Project Engineer to join our Land Engineering team. This position provides an opportunity to work on a diverse range of complex, multi-disciplinary projects for major institutional, industrial, coastal, real estate, and energy clients, as well as local and state government agencies. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the growth and development of our civil engineering team while advancing their technical and project management skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop site/civil engineering plans, designs, and specifications for a variety of projects within the Industrial, Institutional, Real Estate, Coastal, and Energy markets
• Support project managers and senior engineers in the execution of small, medium, and large-scale projects
• Prepare land development design and permitting documents, including site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management plans
• Perform engineering calculations and analysis related to site development and infrastructure design
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical specifications, reports, and other project documentation
• Coordinate with surveyors, landscape architects, traffic engineers, environmental professionals, and other disciplines to develop integrated project solutions
• Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, boards, commissions, utility providers, and other stakeholders
• Assist with permitting activities and responses to regulatory commentsSupport project task scope, budget, and schedule management
• Assist with construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and providing field support
• Participate in site visits and construction observations as needed
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, project teams, and regulatory agencies
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff as experience and expertise develop
• Assist with proposals, project pursuits, and business development activities

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

• Proficient in site layout, grading, utility design, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment
• Prior experience supporting project management, client coordination, or permitting activities is a plus
• Experience with real estate, institutional, industrial, coastal, or energy projects is a plus
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to think critically, solve problems, and manage multiple priorities
• Strong computer skills, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information to clients, team members, and regulatory agencies

The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $92,000 to $125,000 if located in Long Island. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.

Annual base salary is one component of VHB's Total Rewards package.
