Job summary

Baptist in Memphis, TN, United States is seeking a Specialist-Clinical Documentation III RN PRN to evaluate day-to-day documentation practices and provide education on diagnoses and procedures. The role requires clinical expertise in documentation and coding, staying current with reimbursement changes, and promoting quality coding across the team.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of clinical experience in an acute care facility (must be current and pertinent to the specialty).
• Associate’s Degree in Nursing or higher is required; BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates appropriate clinical documentation to support diagnosis coding and ensures the level of service is recorded.
• Performs quality mortality reviews to maximize severity of illness and risk of mortality.
• Reviews risk adjustment indicators (CMS quality measures, POA, pay-for-performance, value-based purchasing) and collaborates with quality teams on PSI/HAC reductions.
• Educates physicians and staff to improve documentation specificity and acuity during patient stays via clarifications and training.
• Works independently in a hybrid mode, with multi-facility/entity responsibility.
• Aids HIM department in meeting coding and billing revenue cycle timelines.
• Demonstrates knowledge of disease definitions and patient status to identify acuity and severity of illness.
• Establishes DRG assignments and collaborates with coding liaison on final DRG.
• Adheres to Standards of Ethical Coding as per AHIMA.
• Attends departmental meetings and educational offerings as scheduled.
