Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma/GED; a bachelor’s degree in a related field is desired.
• Minimum two years of progressively responsible experience in the drinking water industry; cross connection and backflow experience desirable.
• Ability to obtain Oregon Health Authority Water Distribution Operator Certification – Level I within 2 years of appointment.
• Must have a valid state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass routine respiratory protection physical examination evaluation and fit testing within 6 months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Review construction documents and permit applications to ensure cross connection control compliance.
• Inspect plumbing systems to determine backflow protection adequacy or presence of cross connections.
• Review project scopes, advise stakeholders on applicable codes and required corrective actions, and follow up with field inspections.
• Perform on-site inspection of backflow prevention assemblies and certify final installations.
• Receive and investigate customer complaints regarding cross connections and backflow events; determine probable cause and remediation.
• Inspect tank-type vehicles to verify air-gap backflow protection for hydrant permits.
• Enter backflow assembly test reports into a backflow database.
• Perform backflow testing on special projects as assigned.
