Job summary

The State of Connecticut, Department of Administrative Services (DAS), seeks an Assistant State Building Inspector to assist the State Building Inspector in developing and interpreting the Connecticut State Building Code and in overseeing building modification reviews.

The role requires strong leadership, deep knowledge of building codes, and the ability to educate officials and the public. Travel may be required; hybrid telework options are available for this Hartford-based position.

Qualifications

• Ten years of general experience in building code compliance.
• Five years in inspection and review of plans and specifications for large-scale projects.
• Substitutions allowed: college education for experience; two years as supervisor may substitute.

Responsibilities

• Directs staff and coordinates unit activities in support of the State Building Inspector.
• Develops and interprets the Connecticut State Building Code and related policies.
• Review and approve building modifications and code interpretations.
• Educates the public and building officials on code interpretation via presentations and inquiries.
• Manage state construction inspection and technical services teams.
