Job summary

The Building Construction Specialist 1 position with the State of Connecticut, Department of Housing, is based in Hartford and involves reviewing housing development documentation, construction plans, and daily site visits across the state. It requires travel and a state driver training certificate to operate state vehicles.

We seek candidates with strong knowledge of building codes and construction practices, capable of handling field inspections, plan reviews, and coordination with agencies

Qualifications

• Knowledge of building design and construction principles and materials.
• Ability to interpret contracting, zoning and building codes.
• Ability to inspect and supervise construction work for compliance with plans and specs.

Responsibilities

• Inspect all phases of construction and building rehabilitation for code compliance.
• Review shop drawings and proposed changes to approved plans.
• Evaluate field work for adherence to contract documents and codes.
• Determine necessity for design changes and provide recommendations.
• Prepare technical reports of field conditions.
• Review plans and specifications for compliance with agency requirements.
• Perform field visits of proposed projects with applicants.
