Job summary

Hearst is seeking an Analytics Engineer in Charlotte, NC, offering a hybrid work setup. You will architect data pipelines, build semantic models in Microsoft Fabric, and translate complex business needs into precise data definitions across Sales, Finance, and operations.

The role requires deep expertise in SQL, Power BI, Spark, and data modeling, with strong governance and DevOps experience. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential for scalable data solutions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in business analytics, data modeling, or data engineering (or a Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience).
• 5+ years of deep experience with relational modeling concepts and Microsoft tabular semantic models.
• Expert-level SQL skills and 5+ years of experience with Power BI, DAX, and Spark (Spark SQL/PySpark/Scala).
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric tools and the Delta Lake format.
• Experience translating complex business requirements into technical data definitions using Star Schema/Dimensional modeling.
• Familiarity with governance, security best practices, and performance tuning in a cloud environment.
• DevOps: Git, CI/CD, and modern development workflows.
• Excellent communication and ability to escalate data requirements effectively.

Responsibilities

• Architect Silver/Gold layers of a Lakehouse using Spark and SQL with rigorous testing and documentation.
• Design and maintain the Microsoft Fabric Semantic Model (Direct Lake mode) for a single source of truth.
• Translate business questions into precise technical data definitions with Sales and Finance stakeholders.
• Structure data for AI Data Agents and enable navigation of hierarchies of stations, advertisers, and categories.
• Implement Row-Level Security and maintain data lineage for governance and security.
• Lead data model designs, prepare design specs, and conduct feature estimations with cross-functional teams.
• Perform root cause analysis on data anomalies and optimize pipeline performance.
