Job summary

Cisco Systems, Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for its Security Core AI team. You will build shared platforms, orchestration, and evaluation systems enabling trusted AI agents across Cisco and Splunk security products.

You will shape agentic security across public cloud, on-premises, sovereign cloud, and air-gapped environments, ensuring reliability, auditability, and customer trust while remaining hands-on in design reviews and implementation.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience developing, testing, and/or operating production software.
• Experience building and/or operating large-scale distributed or AI-enabled production systems, with experience programming with Python or Go.
• Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD with related experience as listed.

Responsibilities

• Shape technical direction and lead cross-team Agentic SOC capabilities from concept through production improvements.
• Design and build reusable capabilities spanning agent runtime, orchestration, tool use, context/memory, evaluation, trace analysis, and quality gates.
• Translate SOC/SIEM/detection/incident/response needs into shared mechanisms with security-domain experts.
• Design agents and systems for grounded reasoning, planning, delegation, human oversight, traceability, auditability, and safe failure handling.
• Define measurable success criteria for AI capabilities including latency, cost, reliability, and human intervention.
• Establish closed-loop, metrics-driven development using datasets, evaluations, production traces, and feedback.
• Architect for public cloud, on-prem, sovereign cloud, and air-gapped environments with data residency and access considerations.
• Establish patterns for identity propagation, authorization, policy enforcement, privacy, and auditability.
• Evaluate, integrate, and drive adoption of technologies across Splunk and Cisco with security controls.
• Diagnose failures across models, prompts, tools, data, orchestration, services, and integrations.
