Job summary

CACI is seeking an AI Prompt Engineer for the BEAGLE ASF Team supporting the CBP in Northern Virginia. You will design, test, and optimize prompts for Large Language Models to produce high-quality outputs across diverse use cases.

The role demands creativity, technical rigor, and agile delivery in a geographically distributed team. A Bachelor’s degree and 0–3 years in software development with LLM exposure are required.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen with ability to pass CBP background investigation.
• 3-year check for felony convictions; 1-year check for illegal drug use; 1-year check for misconduct such as theft or fraud.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• 0–3 years of professional software development experience.
• 1+ year of hands-on experience with Large Language Models (e.g., OpenAI GPT series).
• Experience with Python or JavaScript/TypeScript; familiarity with prompt engineering techniques.
• Willing to work a hybrid schedule with onsite requirements in Ashburn, VA.

Responsibilities

• Prompt Design & Optimization: Develop, refine, and iterate on prompts for generative AI models to elicit desired behaviors.
• Iterative Testing & Analysis: Conduct tests, compare prompt variations, and drive continuous improvement.
• Collaboration: Integrate prompts with multiple groups to streamline processes.
• Research & Development: Stay updated on LLM advancements and prompt engineering techniques.
• Fine-tuning & RAG Support: Contribute to strategies for model fine-tuning and Retrieval Augmented Generation.
• Problem Solving: Debug unexpected model behaviors and identify root causes in prompt structure or data context.
