Job summary

Toyota Research Institute (TRI) seeks System Integration Engineering Interns to help envision, design, and develop research platforms for in-vehicle AI monitoring. You will work across TRI’s HID division with multidisciplinary teams to integrate hardware and software, from concept to execution.

This 12-week paid internship is hybrid and in California. You will gain hands-on experience with edge AI, data modalities, and prototyping on NVIDIA Jetson, with mentoring and opportunities to contribute

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or CS field.
• Interest in integrating mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
• Proficiency in Python and data analysis with NumPy/Pandas.
• Experience with embedded Linux and edge AI hardware (NVIDIA Jetson).
• Familiarity with ROS, CAN, and CAD is a plus.
• Strong self-motivation and fast learner.

Responsibilities

• Assist design and integration of an AI monitoring system for vehicle platforms.
• Explore data modalities like audio and video with CAN data.
• Deploy AI models on in-vehicle edge computers.
• Document integration processes and outcomes for reuse.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to address integration challenges.
• Contribute to process improvements and best practices.
