Job summary

Virtus Insurance in Overland Park, KS is seeking a Senior Manager, AI Engineering & Platform to design and build the foundations for AI-enabled operations. You will write production code and shape the data platform, APIs, and integration layers.

As the first dedicated engineering hire, you will set technical standards, lead architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and partner with executives to ensure scalable, secure solutions that support Virtus' growth.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of engineering experience across full-stack development and data engineering.
• Experience as a first engineering hire in a growing org with autonomous ownership.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and TypeScript.
• Cloud deployment experience, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Daily use of AI-assisted software development tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication for executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Data Platform Ownership: oversee external data platform and analytics partners, ensure scalable data warehouse structures.
• API & Integration Architecture: design API layer, establish integration standards, govern enterprise integration strategies.
• Knowledge Management & AI Enablement: support AI-powered applications through scalable knowledge management architectures.
• Application Development & Platform Engineering: lead internal apps, set authentication/monitoring standards, ensure reliability and governance.
• Technical Leadership & Architecture Oversight: provide guidance, evaluate risks, align with growth objectives.
