Job summary

CT State Community College is seeking a Qualified Craft Worker (HVACR) for the Gateway campus in New Haven, CT. The role focuses on skilled maintenance, operation, and repair of HVAC/R systems to ensure safe, reliable climate control across facilities.

The ideal candidate has substantial HVACR experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to read technical diagrams and operate control systems. A licensure path and substitutions are noted in qualifications, with growth and stability

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of experience in the HVACR trade.
• Two (2) years of General Experience in skilled HVACR trades (Two years may be substituted as noted).
• Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a relevant diploma may substitute for two years of General Experience.
• Experience substituting for General/Special Experience through University programs or traineeships.
• Experience performing technical duties within the HVACR trade area on military bases or large facilities may substitute year-for-year.

Responsibilities

• Performs highly skilled tasks in HVACR trade practices and codes.
• Operates, maintains, repairs, installs, and assembles HVAC equipment and systems.
• Determines required cooling capacity for small areas.
• Uses a psychometric chart to analyze air conditions.
• Monitors computerized control systems and equipment performance.
• May install, modify, repair electrical or pneumatic controls for HVAC systems.
• May respond to emergencies at state facilities.
