Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

The Food Service Equipment Technician diagnoses, repairs, and maintains commercial cooking, refrigeration, and warewashing equipment for customers throughout Lenexa, KS and the surrounding Kansas City metro. This is a full-time, hourly field service role built for technicians with two or more years of hands‑on repair experience who want paid manufacturer training and mentorship from senior technicians. Pay is $25.00-$30.00 per hour depending on experience, plus a quarterly bonus.

Key Responsibilities - Food Service Equipment Technician
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on commercial cooking, refrigeration, ice, and warewashing equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration faults using meters, gauges, and diagnostic tools.
  • Complete scheduled inspections, then adjust controls, calibrate, clean, and replace defective parts. Escalate complex or unfamiliar failures to a senior technician rather than guessing.
  • Confirm equipment concerns with customers on site and explain the repair, the parts involved, and the expected timeline. Respond promptly to dispatched calls and keep the customer updated on status.
  • Maintain truck stock and order parts for assigned calls. Document every inspection, repair, and part replacement on a tablet-based work order the same day.
  • Support after-hours and weekend service through a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Install, diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on commercial cooking, refrigeration, ice, and warewashing equipment.
Qualifications - Food Service Equipment Technician
  • 1+ years of hands‑on experience repairing commercial food service equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, or comparable mechanical and electrical systems.
  • EPA Section 608 certification required, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, including reading wiring diagrams and using a multimeter.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in refrigeration, HVAC, or electrical preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Ability to work periodic on-call nights and weekends on a rotating schedule.
Preferred Qualifications - Commercial Kitchen Equipment Technician
  • CFESA certification or manufacturer-specific service training.
  • Experience across cooking equipment, commercial refrigeration, ice machines, and warewashing.
  • Prior dispatched field service or route service experience with direct customer contact.
  • Comfort using tablet or mobile work order systems for service documentation.
Physical Requirements - Food Service Equipment Technician
  • Lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Climb short and tall ladders.
  • Stand, bend, squat, kneel, and stoop throughout the shift, with full range of motion in arms, hands, and legs.
  • Work in various weather conditions, including hot kitchen environments and walk-in refrigeration.
  • Operate a company vehicle to customer sites and maintain safe operation and cleanliness.
