Job summary

Tipping Hat, part of American Residential Services, is seeking a journeyman HVAC technician. You will start-up and test new HVAC equipment, perform warranty service, and support the first year after installation for new construction projects.

Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing systems, responding to service calls, performing preventive maintenance, replacing filters and worn parts, and ensuring proper operation across comfort modes. Excellent customer communication is required.

Qualifications

• GED or high school diploma preferred with at least 2 years HVAC service training or completion of an approved HVAC training program.
• Basic computer skills.
• EPA certification required when handling refrigerants.
• Knowledge of electrical/gas diagnostics and air flow required.
• A valid driver’s license and good communications skills are required.
• Degree program or certified HVAC program or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides journeyman level skills in start-up of new equipment, repair under warranty, and first-year warranty service for new construction operations.
• Performs start-up of residential HVAC systems in new construction to ensure proper operation in heat and cool cycles.
• Responds to service calls, troubleshoots malfunctioning systems under warranty, and communicates findings to the customer.
• Performs preventive maintenance and replacements (filters, motors, belts, vents, duct work) to prevent failures.
• Repairs, calibrates, or replaces controls, switches, thermostats, transformers, wiring, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, piping and other components.
• Installs, repairs, replaces refrigerant lines, vents, detectors, and related components; braze Freon lines and pressurize with nitrogen.
• Tests repairs and installations by starting unit and checking pressures with gauges.
