Job summary

This role manages critical building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and specialized laboratory infrastructure to maintain safe, compliant, and efficient laboratory environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of facilities experience in lab or research environments.
• Strong knowledge of building automation, HVAC, electrical distribution, and plumbing.
• Knowledge of building codes, OSHA regulations, and laboratory safety standards.
• Proven communication with lab personnel, vendors, and management.

Responsibilities

• Maintain laboratory utility systems including compressed air, vacuum, gases, water purification, electrical distribution and safety systems.
• Monitor system performance and coordinate repairs or upgrades to prevent disruptions.
• Lead preventive maintenance for hard services equipment supporting laboratory operations.
• Provide on-call emergency support for critical utility failures affecting labs.
• Ensure facility compliance with codes and safety standards and document inspections.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Facilities Lab Support Technician to provide comprehensive utility and hard services support to laboratory personnel, ensuring optimal facility conditions for research and testing operations. This role manages critical building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and specialized laboratory infrastructure to maintain safe, compliant, and efficient laboratory environments.

What This Job Involves

Maintaining Critical Laboratory Systems

You'll support and maintain laboratory utility systems including compressed air, vacuum, specialty gases, water purification, electrical distribution and all safety systems. Reporting to the Facilities Lab Supervisor, you will be monitoring system performance and coordinating repairs or upgrades to prevent operational disruptions while ensuring adequate capacity and redundancy for critical laboratory functions.

Environmental Controls Leadership

You'll maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems specific to laboratory requirements, including fume hood exhaust systems, cleanroom environments, and temperature-sensitive storage areas. This involves monitoring air quality, pressure differentials, and filtration systems to maintain proper laboratory conditions and safety standards.

Preventive Maintenance Excellence

You'll conduct comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules for all hard services equipment supporting laboratory operations. Working closely with vendors and internal teams, you'll ensure timely completion of maintenance activities while minimizing impact on research activities.

Emergency Response Coordination

You'll provide on-call support, on a rotating schedule, for critical utility failures affecting laboratory operations, responding rapidly to equipment malfunctions, power outages, or environmental system failures. This includes coordinating emergency repairs and implementing temporary solutions, at the direction of Management, to maintain laboratory functionality.

Compliance and Safety Management

You'll ensure all facility systems meet applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards for laboratory environments. This involves maintaining documentation for inspections, testing, and certifications while collaborating with safety teams to address facility-related hazards.

Vendor Partnership Management

You'll support external contractors and service providers for Facility related laboratory equipment maintenance and repairs. Your responsibility is to ensure their work quality meets laboratory standards.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

• Minimum facilities experience with at least 2 years in laboratory or research environments.
• Strong knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC controls, electrical distribution, and plumbing systems.
• Working knowledge of building codes, OSHA regulations, and laboratory safety standards.
• Proven communication skills for interfacing with laboratory personnel, vendors, and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building automation platforms.
• Familiarity with laboratory-specific equipment including fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, autoclaves, glasswashers and specialty gas systems.
