Job summary

Texas State Technical College seeks an HVACR Instructor to deliver applied learning experiences and mentor students in a hands-on environment. You will utilize technology to enhance instruction and support student growth with constructive feedback and real-world context.

Qualifications

  • Verifiable work experience as an HVACR technician.
  • Ability to explain and demonstrate HVACR schematics, components, wiring, and controls; refrigeration cycle and refrigerants.
  • Experience with load calculations and residential duct design; HVACR system testing/balancing.
  • Familiarity with safety practices and use of HVACR tools; equipment installation and duct systems.
  • NATE certifications (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY: Prepare and deliver high-quality instruction; develop course syllabi and instructional plans; organize daily classes using creative/innovative techniques.
  • INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT: Fulfill assigned schedule; maintain accurate student records; ensure a safe instructional environment and secure equipment where applicable; provide opportunities for student evaluation.
  • STUDENT RETENTION AND PLACEMENT: Advise students with timely, accurate information; collaborate with the Office of Student Success to connect students with tutoring and retention programs.
  • PROGRAM RECRUITMENT & PROMOTION: Participate in tours and recruitment events; contribute to department/program recruitment planning.
  • TEAMWORK & SERVICE: Provide courteous service to students, parents, employers, media, coworkers, and the public; maintain flexibility for evening, weekend, or summer assignments; work well in a team; align with the college mission and values.

Job Description

TSTC faculty deliver approved curriculum, content, and assessments in an applied learning environment. Responsibilities include facilitating activities and discussions that engage diverse learning styles with targeted guidance and mentorship, interpreting and administering assessments, and providing constructive feedback to support student growth and learning outcomes. The role emphasizes effective use of technology to enrich educational experiences. Faculty act as ambassadors for their programs and TSTC, upholding TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Certifications
  • Verifiable work experience as an HVACR technician
  • Ability to explain and demonstrate: basic and advanced electrical schematics, components, wiring, controls; refrigeration cycle, heat transfer, refrigerants; service, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of HVACR equipment
  • Experience with load calculations, residential duct design, and HVACR system testing/balancing
  • Familiarity with safety practices and use of HVACR tools; installation of HVACR equipment and duct systems; knowledge of ASHP/WSHP/GHP/GSHP concepts
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Certifications
  • Verifiable work experience as a commercial HVACR technician
  • NATE certifications
Education and Experience

Verifiable and demonstrated experience required.
