Job summary

Texas State Technical College (TSTC) seeks an Instructor to deliver hands-on HVACR instruction in our Harlingen campus. You will share expertise, guide students through real-world projects, and assess progress with actionable feedback.

You will prepare syllabi, align coursework to program outcomes, and mentor learners to success while upholding the college’s values of Excellence and Integrity. This role requires strong communication and safety focus.

Qualifications

  • Required: verifiable HVACR technician experience.
  • Ability to explain and demonstrate electrical schematics, wiring, and controls.
  • Experience with residential, light commercial, and industrial HVACR systems.
  • Knowledge of load calculations, duct design, and system balancing.
  • Preferred: commercial HVACR experience; NATE certifications.
  • Education and experience must be verifiable.

Responsibilities
  • Faculty deliver approved curriculum, content, and assessments in an applied learning environment. Facilitate activities and discussions that engage a range of learning styles with targeted guidance and mentorship to students.
  • Interpret and administer assessments, offer constructive feedback to support student growth and learning outcomes. Integrate technology effectively to enrich educational experiences.
  • Act as ambassadors for their programs and TSTC. Demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students and members of the community.
  • INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY: Prepare and deliver high quality instruction, facilitate learning, develop course syllabi and instructional plans, and organize daily classes using a variety of creative/innovative techniques.
  • INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT: Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student records, manage the instructional environment with emphasis on safety and equipment security where applicable, and provide opportunities for student evaluation.
  • STUDENT RETENTION AND PLACEMENT: Advise students with timely, accurate information; collaborate with the Office of Student Success to provide current information on tutoring and programs designed to increase retention.
  • PROGRAM RECRUITMENT & PROMOTION: Participate in tours and recruitment events; assist in department/program planning for recruitment.
  • TEAMWORK & SERVICE: Demonstrate service orientation with courteous behavior toward students, parents, employers, media, coworkers, and the public; maintain flexibility and willingness for evening, weekend, or summer assignments; work effectively in a team; uphold the college’s mission, vision and values.
  • OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
  • The core competencies for instructional delivery in an applied learning environment include:
    - TEACHING & LEARNING: Deliver high quality instruction; tailor methods to diverse learning styles and needs.
    - MENTORSHIP & COACHING: Provide personalized guidance and support; foster open communication.
    - ASSESSMENT & FEEDBACK: Create and use assessments to provide constructive feedback and guide learning; continually improve teaching strategies.
    - TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION: Use technology to enhance learning experiences.
Qualifications
  • Required: Verifiable work experience as an HVACR technician. Ability to explain and demonstrate knowledge of the following areas: basic and advanced electrical schematics, electrical components, wiring circuits, controls strategies, and control devices; refrigeration cycle, pressure-temperature relationships, refrigerants, heat transfer, and temperature conversions; service, troubleshoot, repair and maintain residential, light commercial, and industrial HVACR equipment; reverse cycle, COP calculations, and thermal balance point; diffs between ASHP, WSHP, GHP, and GSHP; safe use of HVACR tools; copper tubing fabrication and installation; HVACR equipment installation with duct systems; load calculations and duct design; test, balance, and adjust HVAC/R systems; psychrometric concepts affecting comfort; direct digital control systems and operation of HVAC/R equipment; troubleshoot controls.
  • Preferred: Verifiable work experience as a commercial HVACR technician; NATE certifications.
  • Education and Experience: Verifiable and demonstrated experience required.
