Job summary

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary HVAC coursework or apprenticeship training preferred.
  • Must meet one of the licensure/experience options: teaching license, HVAC license, DPOR Journeyman/Master card, or 2 years HVAC experience.

Job Description

The Department of Juvenile Justice is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth and strengthen families and communities across the Commonwealth. DJJ's Division of Education is seeking a qualified HVAC Instructor to provide high-quality, competency-based instruction that supports the individual learning needs of students and aligns with the Commonwealth's educational standards, statutes, and program certification requirements. The instructor will design and deliver engaging, research-based instruction, foster a safe, respectful, and student-centered learning environment, and use student data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and promote academic success.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Must possess a high school diploma or a Virginia Board of Education-approved high school equivalency credential. Postsecondary coursework or apprenticeship training in HVAC from an accredited college, technical school, or recognized training program is preferred.
Licensure/Experience:
Must meet one of the following qualifications: (1) Possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License or Virginia Technical Professional License; or
(2) Possess a DPOR Journeyman or Master Card for HVAC; or
(3) Have at least two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) occupational experience within the past five years in the HVAC field.
NCCER Instructor Certification or experience delivering NCCER HVAC curriculum is preferred.

Additional Considerations

Experience as an HVAC Instructor in a secondary setting preferred; Experience teaching at-risk youth preferred; Current OSHA Construction Standards Training Card preferred.
