Job summary

George Mason University is seeking an HVAC Technician II for the Fairfax campus. This full-time, on-site role supports the Facilities & Campus Operations department, performing skilled HVAC tasks under supervision and adhering to essential personnel expectations.

The position requires 4+ years in HVAC, EPA refrigerant licenses, and a valid driver’s license. Eligible to operate university vehicles; background checks are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 4+ years progressive HVAC experience.
• Knowledge of HVAC equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools.
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions.
• EPA refrigerant licenses (Type I/II/III).
• Valid driver's license meeting Mason's Vehicle Use Policy.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of university HVAC systems and equipment.
• Maintain cooling towers, piping, controls, and related components.
• Install motors, pumps, compressors, and other parts as needed.
• Repair or adjust pneumatic, electric, and motor controls and safety devices.
• Perform preventive maintenance and start-up/shut-down procedures.
• Drive university vehicle to job sites and keep it stocked and clean.
• Assist with snow removal and related duties as required.
• Complete paperwork and time records; manage work orders.
