IRVING INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking an HVAC Technician II to maintain district facilities and ensure reliable climate control for classrooms and workspaces.

The role requires 7+ years of HVAC repair experience, a high school diploma or GED with HVAC certification, and the ability to obtain a Universal Refrigerant Recovery certificate within 90 days. Salary is $26.72–$39.51 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Diagnose causes of malfunctions in HVAC systems.
  • Repair or replace failed components or systems safely and skillfully.
  • Provide on-the-job instruction to other employees as appropriate.
  • Assist the HVAC Lead and other technicians with follow-up repairs.
  • Respond to pages and on-call duties in a timely manner.
  • Maintain safety standards and report job costs and progress.
  • Document materials and labor and keep supervisor informed.

HVAC TECHNICIAN II

JOB DESCRIPTION

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: N/E

PAY GRADE: 8

DEPARTMENT: Facilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To keep the District’s HVAC in such a state of operating excellence that they present as few problems or interruptions as possible to the educational program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED, and HVAC trade school certification; able to read written instructions, understand verbal instructions, and complete written reports.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license and prove insurability with the District’s insurance carrier
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain a valid Universal Refrigerant recovery certificate within 90 days of employment;
  • Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of HVAC repair;
  • Working knowledge of chilled water plant/hot water plant operations and repair;
  • Working knowledge of Energy Management Systems and controls;
  • Demonstrated ability to work and get along with people.

Minimum Experience : 7 years’ experience in residential, commercial, or instructional HVAC repair with `current Universal Refrigerant Recovery license.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Diagnose causes of malfunctions in HVAC systems;
  • Repair or replace failed components or systems in a skilled and safe manner;
  • Give on-the-job instructions and training to other employees as appropriate;
  • Do follow-up repairs and assist the HVAC Lead and other technicians;
  • Respond to pages in a timely manner while serving on-call duty;
  • Practice high standards of safety during the performance of duties;
  • Record all material and labor sites and keep the immediate supervisor informed of job costs and progress;
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the HVAC Lead or as directed by supervisors within the line of authority in the Facilities Department.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • No supervisory responsibilities

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Ability to lift and carry 55 or more pounds without assistance; continual moderate lifting and carrying (15-55 pounds); occasional reaching above shoulder level; continuous use of fingers; continual standing and walking; frequent bending and stopping; ability to climb ladders; and frequent operation of a motor vehicle; ability to distinguish basic colors.

Ability to work outdoors and indoors; occasional need to work above and below ground; exposure to heat, cold, and humidity; exposure to asbestos-containing materials, grease and oils, solvents, and electrical energy; and exposure to machinery with moving parts.

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
