Job summary

The HVAC Mechanic I role at Tufts University’s Facilities Services requires experience in installing, troubleshooting, and servicing HVAC systems, including chillers and package systems. The position is essential and time-flexible for campus events and emergencies.

Salary starts at $49.18 per hour with a comprehensive benefits package and a one-time sign-on bonus of $5,000. Must have Massachusetts HVAC license and EPA/DEP certifications, with CORI/SORI checks completed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 7+ years relevant experience, including 4+ years as a licensed HVAC technician.
• Reading blueprints and working knowledge of codes.
• Proficient with Windows; BAS systems like JCI or Schneider helpful; CMMS MAXIMO useful.
• Good written and verbal English communication.
• Strong time management and multi-tasking ability.
• Professional conduct with faculty, staff, and students.
• Physically able to perform duties indoors/outdoors year-round.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, and service chillers and HVAC packages.
• Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs as needed.
• Prepare parts and tools for daily activities.
• Maintain asset maintenance records in CMMS.
• Work with safety norms and university procedures.
