General Summary
We are seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our team. The technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The HVAC Technician will ensure optimal performance and safety of HVAC systems in compliance with industry standards and regulations. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing environmental-control systems, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair equipment such as chillers, air handling units, controls, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, refrigerators, freezers, and hot/chilled water pumps. Participate in the site’s predictive maintenance program.
- Operate systems and evaluate equipment to determine needed repairs.
- Install refrigeration and air conditioning systems by positioning compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators, heaters, and other components according to design specifications.
- Charge refrigeration systems with refrigerant gas and test for leaks.
- Start units and adjust for proper operation, including cut-in and cut-out settings.
- Adjust systems for optimal performance.
- Maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems by monitoring performance and repairing or replacing defective components.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical and pneumatic systems associated with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, from safety switches to the equipment itself.
- Operate all types of centrifugal and reciprocating refrigeration/air-conditioning systems and pneumatic/electromechanical temperature controls.
- Perform plumbing procedures necessary for system operation.
- Perform preventive maintenance and participate in predictive maintenance programs.
- Perform other duties and shift coverage as required.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skill Requirements
- EPA certification (Universal) per CFR part 82f for servicing and recovering refrigerants.
- Ability to read blueprints, sketches, and specifications related to HVAC systems; follow oral instructions; perform shop mathematics; and lay out work.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience performing HVAC craft functions or certification from a recognized trade school.
- Broad knowledge of mechanical principles related to refrigeration and air conditioning.
- Experience and/or certification in predictive maintenance technologies such as vibration analysis, infrared, ultrasound, etc.
- High computer aptitude and familiarity with MS Office applications.
- Ability to interpret and develop technical reports.
- Ability to operate testing equipment and tools necessary for HVAC work, perform standard and complex operations.
Physical, Environmental, and Sensory Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, kneel, climb ladders, stand for long periods, and perform arm extensions.
- Occasional exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, chemicals, and other elements, with safety precautions in place. Minor safety hazards such as cuts or bruises may occur.
